How close was former president Koroma to the coup?
Amongst the 12 individuals charged yesterday January 2nd 2024 for their alleged criminal involvement in the failed Coup of November 26th 2023 is Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sesay, a brilliant gentleman (he holds a First Class Honours degree and a Masters in Financial Management) who is
undoubtedly one of the most trusted of all aides of Former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
This, pundits have posited, means that Ernest Bai Koroma is deeply involved in the Coup and will be charged; contrary to serious misgivings that Koroma may escape charges.
Ibrahim Sesay commonly known as 'Batetewor' at the time of the Coup, was assigned by the State, *at the request of Koroma,* to Former President Ernest Bai Koroma's security detail, serving as Chief Security Officer.
However, even prior to now, he has been one of the closest persons to Koroma who traveled with Koroma for almost two decades now on virtually every one of Koroma's international trips since prior to 2007 when Koroma was Opposition Leader and then from 2007 to 2018 throughout Koroma's Presidency, he was the ever-present part of Koroma's entourage.
Lately, during Koroma's post-presidency years, ASP Ibrahim Sesay accompanied Koroma on all Koroma's Elections Observer Missions. ASP Sesay is shown in this picture walking behind Koroma, identically dressed like Koroma, during a recent ECOWAS Elections Observers mission headed by Koroma.
