Minister of Information and Civic Education urge the citizens to go about their normal businesses as the situation is completely under control

Ministry of Information and Civic Education's Press Conference. 16th January 2024 KEY HIGHLIGHTS ♦ Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah sends a message of peace across the country. He urged citizens to go about their normal business. He warned lawbreakers to desist as the law would take it full force. He commended the Chairman of APC Minkailu Mansaray for disassociating the APC party from any illegal protest. Minister C-Bah assured the public of normalcy on Wednesday 17th January 2024. ♦Minister Chernor Bah assured the public that, former President Ernest Bai Koroma's trial and others are public trials and that the judiciary will determine whether these trials can be televised. ♦Minister of Planning and Economic Development Kenyeh Barlay disclosed that the National Development Plan which had always been 5 years will now roll for 7 years ranging from January 2024 to December 2030 which is in line with the global SDGs which ends in 2030. ♦She stated that they embarked on nationwide consultative engagements to develop the National Plan. They reached over 8,000 people across the country. The plan is based on the aspirations of the people and guided by the big five game changers of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio. ♦Minister Barlay said the Feed Salone Project is not a political gimmick. According to her, it is a project to accelerate economic development in the country. Agriculture contributes 50% of the country's GDP and the vision is to increase the contribution of agriculture to the GDP. ♦Economic diversification, Governance, Climate Resilience, Gender Mainstream Financing, Implementation, and Resource Mobilization are the five (5) enablers of the National Development Plan. ♦Chair Parliamentary Committee on Local Governance Hon. Musa Fofanah who was also the Chair of the Economic Development Planning Committee in Parliament talked about the importance of the National Development Plan and outlined gains in the Health, Education, Energy, and Mining Sectors. He talked about the reduction in maternal mortality rate, increase in energy generation, and reforms in the mining sector that have yielded dividends for the country. ♦Executive Director Institute of Governance Reform Andrew Lavali called on citizens to embrace the National Development Plan and work in line with it to actualize their dreams and aspirations. He urged Sierra Leoneans to own the Development Plan and work towards its success for the benefit of all. ♦According to IGR's Biometer last year on President Bio's promises, they found out that, 79% of the promises were partially achieved or fully archived. ♦The National Development Plan will be available to the public by 30th January 2024. ©Ministry of Information and Civic Education.
