Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah visits his people in Jimmi Bagbo and makes Zakaat to the Muslim Jamaat and the wider community 31st March 2024 Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Abdulai Bah has visited his people in Jimmi Bagbo. During his visit, he met and spent time with various community leaders, inspected ongoing and potential projects, and distributed rice and assorted items to his people, especially the Muslim Jamaat. He also joined the Chiefdom Imam and the other elders for prayers and Iftar at the Central Mosque in Bagbo Chiefdom, Bo District. EDSA Director General Condemns Power Theft and Praises Government The Director General of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Agency or EDSA Dr. Joe Lahai Sormana has at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education weekly press conference, dilated on the issues around energy supply in the country generally, and Western Area in particular. The Director General started his brilliant exposè by drawing a line of distinction between EDSA and EGTC, which came about as a result of a 2011 act that unbundled the former power authority, the National Power Authority. He said that EDSA’s partner agency EGTC is responsible for generation and transmission of power, and EDSA is tasked with distribution and supply. The feasibility study for the freetown cable car system is being presented to the steering committee

The two-year feasibility studies for the Freetown Cable Car system started in July 2022. The feasibility studies are being funded by the C40 Cities Finance Facility and undertaken by an international consortium of experts led by GIZ. Yesterday the preliminary technical, financial and environmental results of the feasibility studies were presented to the Project Steering Committee meeting by Nirmish Pal of GFA and Samuella Faulkner of Integems respectively. The inaugural Freetown Cable Car Steering Committee meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Local Government Hon Alfred Moi Jamiru and senior representatives of the Ministeries of Finance, Transport and Lands. The meeting which will now be held on a monthly basis was very constructive. Today members of the Project Coordination Unit, which also includes SLRA, PPP Unit, Ministry of Works and Ministry of Economic Development are continuing today with more technical meetings having conducted site visits earlier this week. This morning, I received the newly appointed World Bank Country Director for Sierra Leone, Ghana and Liberia, Mr Robert Taliercio O'Brien, at the State Lodge in Freetown. We discussed my Government’s efforts towards improving the macroeconomic fundamentals of the country and our concerted efforts towards alleviating poverty, in line with United Nations SDG Goal 1, which seeks to eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030. I also sought the World Bank’s continued support for my Government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024-2030) with a particular focus on our Big 5 Strategic Priorities to spur sustainable socio-economic transformation. The World Bank has been a valued strategic partner, working alongside other Development Partners in Sierra Leone to support the country’s fight against poverty, promote economic development, and improve the living standards of our citizens.
